Her Metamorphosis

To stop recurring patterns in ourselves and society, we must search for the root of the issue. The original trauma or circumstance that eventually normalizes the behavior. “Her Metamorphosis, is a multimedia collaborative show between photographer Scott Free, and the multi-media performative collective The Contaminator Crew that explores the root of female hatred through a metaphysical theology.

The tamed domestic victim. A woman in her most precious innocence. The violated child, the raped, belittled, gaslighted prey that a man has gotten off too so many times to gain control.

The educated woman who is confident and aware of her surroundings. She has learned how to care for herself, protect herself, and assert her rights. From the experience of being a fellow prey, she is one step ahead of the game, playing it smart to interact successfully in society. Most women believe this is the strongest phase of metamorphosis, and are happy to be in this position.

Back to the wild: This woman has gotten over the fear of being shunned and rejected for everything she worked for being the “good girl” and playing it smart. She is wild with rage and has awakened to the truth of hatred forced upon her since she was born. She is no longer worried about being kind and collected and is tired to the bone of playing the game.  She will say how she feels, do as she pleases, wear what she wants while bleeding her beautiful, compassionate heart to those around her, not backing down without a fight.  Empowered doesn’t mean evil or stooping down to the hatred conflicted upon her. Empowered is taking nothing less than the respect deserved, while not fearing brainwashed rules on how a woman should be, written by a man.

And she won

Phase 4- FLY:

Congratulations, you did the work. After taking a brutal hit from each phase, you survived the long journey and the winter to the warm hemisphere. It’s time to finally release the wings you kept hidden for so long and show those beautiful masterpieces to the world. It’s ok if your wings have some tears, and are a bit withered and dull. Now that you remember they are there and are ready to use them to take you where you were always meant to go, it’s only a time near when they will heal to their full, vibrant selves. But these wounds didn’t happen overnight, they won’t take overnight to heal. All that is important is that you are here now, re-claiming ownership of your vessel and ready to let go and

FLY~

  • In Phase 4 of Her Metamorphosis: Fly, we look at true freedom through a creative lense.

What happens to our art when it holds no bounds? When can we set aside perfect claustrophobic frames, to display art with tears, smears, fear, excitement and everything inbetween.

All the chaos that surrounds her smeared on the paper. The paper’s fragility mimicked the fragility of the human heart and all of it’s emotions.

There are no apologies here, no rules, just a raw tangible room, a reminder of the destruction and rebirth of nature and the human spirt.

If they work together a true friendship can be born, but you have to let go, kick off your shoes embrace your wild and the terrifying silence of crisp cool air, night sky and your inner most wildest thoughts.
